The Corning 80611048218 is a 710 modular splice connector, also catalogued as 710-SD1-25 (formerly 3M710-SD1-25). Straight/half-tap splice connectors permit the joining of two cables 25 pairs at a time, and may also be used for rearranging and transferring cable without interrupting service.
Because the module is dry rather than gel-filled, it suits protected splice locations rather than flooded or buried applications. The half-tap configuration lets technicians tap or transfer existing pairs, which is common in outside-plant copper rearrangement and cut-over work. Distributors list the item in a box of 24 modules.
